they were forced to move and felt like prisoners due to their lack of power and were laughed at the other monarchs. They were fearful seeing as the king of France was speaking to the other monarchs with out them. So they disguised themselves so the guards wouldn’t know they were trying to escape but word spread of their escape and when they made it to Varennes they were caught and returned to Paris.
