This revision podcast relates specifically to the new CIE IGCSE History Paper 4 examination from June 2024. IGCSE History 0470 Paper 4 is the Depth Study paper, and consequently the content material differs depending on what Depth Study you studied at your school. It doesn’t matter which one you focused on as the layout of the exam and the requirements of the mark scheme are the same. Consequently this podcast aims to be as broad as possible.

This episode presents a series of practical tips and tricks for using your knowledge and skills in the right ways tohelp you gain the number of marks you deserve.

Amazing Podcast. This is my first year teaching history and this podcast helps. It would be a great help if you could guide if there is any word limit to answering the questions?

Ahh I’ve got my exam in 8 hours, haven’t revised at all and was so confused as to what paper 4 even was, cuz there are no past papers, so this was really really helpful, thank you!!! At least now ik how to answer the questions, all that’s left is to somehow learn all of the depth study before my exam praying they go easy on us cuz it’s a new paper

Is it always that 1 question is on the Wemar Republic while the other is on Hitler for paper 4s

  Not necessarily I’m afraid. In general there are four broad topics of which any two can feature – Weimar Germany, the Rise of Hitler to 1933/34, Life in Nazi Germany (for civilians), and Methods of Control. Obviously there is possible overlap between all of these.

Dear Mr.Allsop,
In my previous school, we were doing coursework instead of paper 4 (in year10) but in my new school, they have chosen to do the paper. So in the final exams, are the choices of questions given going to be the same choices which were given for the coursework? So are the people who are doing the paper going to be given the same question as the ones doing the coursework? Also, your podcasts are very helpful! In my new school the teacher isn’t really a proper IGCSE History teacher so I have actually been listening to your podcasts as if your my teacher! Thank you so much.

  Thanks for your message. I’m very pleased that you’re finding the podcasts useful. To answer your question, Paper 4 questions are not known ahead of the exam, so although the depth study may be the same as the coursework the questions almost certainly won’t be.
